What is the benefit of purchasing a Pulse Smartpen?
Livescribe’s Smartpen combines all four modes of communication - reading,
writing, speaking and listening - in a low cost, convenient, simple format of
pen and paper.
In the case of taking notes during a discussion or lecture, the Smartpen can
record the conversation and digitize the handwriting, automatically synching
the ink and audio.
Later you can tap the ink on your Livescribe notepad and the Smartpen replays
the conversation from the exact moment the note was written.
Notes and audio can also be uploaded to a PC where they can be replayed, saved,
searched and sent.
How many hours of audio can I record on a Pulse Smartpen?
It depends on the pen memory and quality level you record at.
1.Do you have a 1 GB or 2 GB pen?
2.Are you recording with the pen microphone (mono) or with the headset ear buds
(stereo)?
3.Are you recording audio quality at LOW, MEDIUM, or HIGH?
NOTE: If you want to change this setting, on the inside cover of your notebook
go to “SETTINGS - ADVANCED AUDIO - audio quality” and using the
Smartpen tap one of the three options listed above.
Total Approximate Hours of Recording Time:
Quality Levels
High, Med, Low
1GB Mono: 40, 60, 100+ Hours
2GB Mono: 85, 130, 200+ Hours
How big is the Pulse pen?
The Pulse Smartpen is about the size of a Mont-Blanc pen. It weighs close to
36 grams, is 6.1 inches in length, 16 millimetres wide at the top and 14 millimetres
wide at the bottom.
What is the battery life of the Pulse Smartpen without
audio?
You can record text for approximately 16 hours by turning the Pulse Smartpen
on and writing on your Livescribe paper.
As long as you don’t tap the record button at the bottom of your paper,
the pen strokes will still be captured without the audio.
How do I play back my audio sessions?

How do I record audio without using paper?
We refer to recording audio without paper as a “Paperless Session”.
This feature, also known as a “Quick Record”, allows you to record
without writing on your dot enabled paper. To activate this feature, turn your
Smartpen on and hold the power button down
Your pen will turn off when the power button is held and then turn back on in
a recording session after approximately five seconds.
The Smartpen is now recording audio without linking to written notes. If you
decide to write on Livescribe paper, your audio and notes will be linked from
that point on.

The LiveScribe Pulse Smartpen has transformed how we coach and mentor our sales people. It’s incredibly powerful to be able to listen to their presentation, and in conjunction with their hand written notes, analyse the critical decisions they make during a sales presentation. This has taken sales coaching to the next level for us.
